The 3 Bs of When Life Begins -
“When does human life begin?”
Physicians, scientists,
politicians, philosophers, and theologians offer a variety of complex and
differing answers.
Does anyone really know when life begins?
Is it really all that complicated?
Let’s get back to some basics.
If the “3Rs” are the basics of education, the “3Bs” are the basics of when life
begins—Biology, Bible, and Baptism.
Item 1004T. $0.25 ea.

Cloning: Understanding the Basics - The cloning of
Dolly the sheep is old news. Now there is talk about cloning humans to "replace"
a dead child or to provide body parts for transplant. There is even a cult that
sees cloning as the means to eternal life. The vast majority of people are
opposed to such cloning. But what about cloning human embryos to obtain stem
cells in order to treat disease?

The Handiwork of
God brochure tells us that the value of human life comes from what
God has done and continues to do! Life is His handiwork!
He creates life with His hands. He redeemed life with His hands. He
holds His children by the hand.
When we
understand these answers, then, as we confront difficult issues, some
questions won’t even need to be asked. This is a wonderful resource for
both congregational and school use!

In
Vitro Fertilization: Moral or Immoral? - One of the increasing
number of questions asked about reproductive technologies by parishioners
is, "Is in vitro fertilization morally acceptable or not?" Since
in vitro (Latin: in glass referring to a petri dish)
fertilization is a process involving issues within issues there is often
confusion resulting from attempts to answer that question. In this
brochure, Dr. Richard C. Eyer attempts to identify the separate issues and
their moral standing so that the reader can evaluate the moral
acceptability or unacceptability of in vitro fertilization.

Stem Cell Research: Understanding the Basics - It is
important for the Christian to understand that God’s Word does have something to
say about embryonic stem cell research (ESCR). To understand how God’s Word
applies to this controversial issue, however, a basic understanding of the
biology involved is necessary first. So welcome to Embryonic Stem Cell Biology
101!

Conceived by the Holy
Spirit - Before Jesus was born of
the virgin Mary, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit. It is
important to understand that Jesus spent nine months in a womb
before He was "asleep on the hay." It is particularly important in light of the
attention given to stem cells and cloning these days.

The Miracle of the Incarnation
– The path to the cross did not begin in Bethlehem
but in Nazareth! March 25 is the most appropriate time to celebrate
the Incarnation. God became man at Jesus’ conception in Mary.
Since our beginnings were sinful (Psalm 51:5), Jesus had to take our
place from that very moment. Part of the redemptive process was for
Jesus to pass through all stages of our development. What powerful
implications for the value of human life from the very beginning!
Jesus’ divinity and humanity at the moment of conception attest to
our humanity from that moment.
Item 1106BI. FREE Note:
Quantities are limited.

Also available: To assist pastors and congregations in observing
the Annunciation of our Lord—and to teach the great value God in
Christ places on all human life—Lutherans For Life offers—FREE OF

Stem Cell Research and Cloning 101: A
Primer is hosted by Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb. He says, "I want to
make it clear from the beginning that this presentation is not going
to be complicated and hard to understand. I will be presenting the
basics of stem cell research and cloning. There are two reasons for
that. First, I am not a scientist or an expert in these areas so I
cannot make it complicated! Second, all we need to know are the
basics. Once we understand the basic biology involved, we will be
able to apply God’s Word to these technologies—and God’s Word is
where we want to begin." (37 minutes)

"The family of believers, then, is compelled to love
preborn life,
but not just the healthy, ‘wanted,’
‘oh-what-a-cute-ultrasound’ preborn.
"They are also compelled to love the Down Syndrome
preborn, those with physical limitations, even those who are not
predicted to live long outside the womb.
"They are to love them enough to speak up for them,
to allow them to be born, to meet Jesus in the waters of
holy baptism,
to fulfill the purpose God has for them in His eternal
wisdom."
