Womb to Tomb to Victory

Womb to tomb to victory—in only 4 days! The Annunciation of our Lord, March 25, marks the beginning of Jesus’ life in Mary’s womb. Jesus’ journey to the cross did not start in a manger but in a fallopian tube.

That makes perfect sense. Since humanity is by nature sinful, and since our humanity begins at conception, we are necessarily sinful from the moment of conception. (See Psalm 51:5) Jesus’ holy life had to miraculously begin where our unholy life naturally began. Since the price of our redemption began at the moment God assumed our humanity, the value of humanity begins at that moment as well.

On Good Friday, we witness the ultimate reason for this assumption of human flesh. The Holy Son of God must become our sin and suffer and die in our place. He who took our place in the darkness of the womb and He who took our place in the darkness of the cross, then takes our place in the darkness of the tomb. What our Savior accomplished from womb to tomb gives unsurpassed value to all who travel between these points.

Then comes victory! Death cannot contain the Lord of Life. In the Resurrection, God says a tomb-shattering and heaven-opening “Yes!” to all Jesus did between womb and tomb. The Resurrection is a victory For Life! Life wins! Death can never win for the believer. Victory swallows it up!

The Resurrection is also a victory for living life. It surrounds us with the hope in which we live. Hope is not some nice feeling we try to attain. It is the reality in which we live. Our value is assured. Our eternal life is assured. The presence of a living Savior is assured. What hope! What a way to live!

Take advantage of this early Easter and the opportunity it provides to reflect on what our Savior has accomplished from womb to tomb to victory. This provides the very foundation that is the basis for all we do at Lutherans For Life. This “value-giving” and “hope-in-living” message is the greatest message of life there is. It is made to order for addressing the life issues. It is made to order for those dealing with such issues.
