The Life Ministry Coordinator Program

One Person CAN Make A Difference!

What is the LMC Program?

The Life Ministry Coordinator (LMC) program envisions one or several individuals in a local congregation seeking opportunities to educate and motivate members of their own congregation for service as Christian witnesses and citizens on life and family issues.

Why the LMC program?

We have found there are many individuals who desire to educate themselves and others in their congregation about the sanctity of life issues or engage in service projects but do not have the time to develop a chartered Lutherans For Life chapter, attend monthly meetings, or find officers.

The Life Ministry Coordinator Program fills this void. The LMC can plan and coordinate pro-life activities where the development of an LFL chapter is not immediately achievable. (Becoming an LMC also offers an additional way for those who are involved in an LFL chapter to bring the pro-life message to their congregation.)

Our goal is to have at least one active Life Ministry Coordinator in every Lutheran congregation.

How does the LMC program function?

The LMC is not a chapter, nor does it replace the chapter model. LMC’s are one or more individuals in a congregation who wish to keep their fellow members informed on life issues from a Biblical perspective.

The following may help to explain the differences (and similarities):

Chapter
organization
chartered affiliate of LFL
represent LFL
constitution and bylaws
elect officers
hold regular meetings
membership of officers in LFL required
agree to abide by the philosophy, purpose, and policies of LFL
share in membership contributions with national Lutherans For Life

Life Ministry Coordinator
one or more individuals
member of LFL (membership required)
represent LFL
congregation-based
no elected positions
project oriented
agree to abide by the philosophy, purpose, and policies of LFL
receives no remittances
linked with LFL to receive regular communication and information

Who Me? An LMC? Definitely!

What does an LMC do?

The LMC, along with the counsel of their pastor, elders, or other church leaders, decides how he/she will operate within the local congregation. However, some of the proposed goals of the Life Ministry Coordinator may include the following:

  • Learn as much as possible about the life issues of abortion, euthanasia, post-abortion healing, chastity, etc;

  • Educate others about the life issues through "mission minded" not "meeting minded" activities;

  • Plan Life Sunday activities or other projects to educate the local congregation about the sanctity of human life;

  • Promote the local LFL chapter—if one is near—by publicizing its meetings, events, projects, or activities;

  • Provide timely pro-life information to the pastor, leadership, and membership of the congregation;

  • Coordinate special activities and projects in the local congregation such as forums, films, workshops, March for Life, etc.

  • Work with local, state, and national LFL and/or other pro-life organizations on projects of mutual interest.

The LMC program DOES NOT replace the LFL chapter but provides another model for ministry which can work in conjunction with LFL State Federations and local LFL Chapters. We envision LMC's and nearby LFL chapters mutually supporting pro-life efforts in their congregations and communities.

Five Core Values of Our Ministry Together

  1. God’s Word informs and God’s Spirit empowers our work and witness. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Corinthians 5:14)

  2. Faithfulness to Biblical truth and integrity of witness are more valuable than political expediency. (1 Corinthians 4:1-5)

  3. Response to life issues is with the mind of Christ; prayerfully with humility, compassion, selflessness, speaking the truth in love. (Philippians 2: 1-8; 2 Timothy 2: 24-26)

  4. Education remains our focus, trusting the Holy Spirit to change hearts and minds. (2 Timothy 2:24-26)

  5. We uphold the sanctity of human life because all people are created by God whose intent for them is to bear His image for time and for eternity. (John 10:10)

Lutherans For Life Mission Statement

The mission of Lutherans For Life is to witness to the sanctity of human life through education based on the Word of God.

Lutherans For Life Statement of Philosophy

Lutherans For Life believes that the Church is compelled by God’s Word to speak and act on behalf of those who are vulnerable and defenseless. The crisis of our times is the repudiation of Biblical truth manifested in the wanton destruction of innocent human life through legalized abortion-on-demand and the growing threat to the lives of others through legalized assisted suicide and euthanasia. Therefore, as Lutherans For Life, we will strive to give witness, from a Biblical perspective, to the Church and society on these and other related issues such as chastity, post abortion healing, and family living.
