August 23, 2013

In many places, this week was the first week back to school. My Facebook news feed was full of “first day of school pictures” complete with new clothes, new backpacks, and the classic half excited/half nervous first day of school smile. Just this morning, my sister sent me an adorable picture of my niece on her first day of preschool. As I saw these pictures, I said a simple prayer for the students and their teachers.

There are many things we pray about at the beginning of a new school year.

We pray for wisdom for students and teachers.

We pray for the new relationships that will develop.

This year, I encourage you to pray for the students and teachers who will have a chance to learn about life and the beauty of God’s plan for us through our Teaching For Life curriculum.

Teaching For Life uses nine key concepts to introduce students to life issues in an age appropriate way, with curriculum levels for PK-K, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8. It is designed to be intentionally incorporated into the classroom through subjects such as math, social studies, English, and science.

There are thousands of students who are being introduced to the life-affirming Gospel message of Christ through Teaching For Life.

But why stop with them?

We want to expand Teaching For Life, getting it into more classrooms and developing new curriculums to reach more students, including those outside of Lutheran day schools. We are working on a high school Bible study, a Sunday school curriculum and an interactive online training course for youth and adults, so that anyone can learn more about life issues and how much God loves life—at every stage!

There are many ways that you can help Lutherans For Life achieve our vision through Teaching For Life.

If you are a teacher, you can start using Teaching For Life in your classroom.

  • You can, as an individual, chapter, Life Team, or congregation, encourage local Lutheran schools to adopt the curriculum or help cover the costs of materials.

  • You can also help Lutherans For Life continue to expand Teaching For Life through your financial support.

  • Most importantly, you can pray for those teachers and students who will be learning about Life together this year through Teaching For Life, that hearts and minds will be impacted positively by the Lord of Life.

Through Teaching For Life, we have an exciting opportunity to help shape the minds of our youngest generation and lay a foundation for a future that respects and loves the lives God has created. May God bless the efforts of these dedicated teachers and the students who will hear their message.
