Rejoicing in an Important Victory for Life

We know the greatest victory of all is Jesus Christ’s victory over sin, death, and the devil. We rejoice in knowing that our great heavenly Father cares for us and loves us so much that He gave His one and only Son so that we might have life eternally.

As we watch what is going on in the world around us relative to LIFE, it sometimes makes us wonder what we can expect next. There is, however, one recent landmark victory that I am happy to share. Not long ago I had reported that there was great concern about whether the American Medical Association and the American Nurses Association would falter and change their long-standing positions of being opposed to physician-assisted suicide. I am so very pleased to be able to tell you that the AMA met in early June and reaffirmed their position in support of life. It came out of their review committee with a 65% to 35% vote to uphold their position in opposition to assisted suicide. When it went to the House of Delegates, it was even a larger victory with a 71% vote in opposition to physician-assisted suicide.

Although we would like 100% of our physicians to support life and allow people to die a natural death according to God’s Will, this was a victory far greater than anticipated. We know that many people have been praying, and God does answer prayers. Several physicians led the charge to make this happen. They engaged many other physicians and medical students to testify in support of their long-standing positions. It worked and hearts were either changed or made willing to stand firm on what is good medical ethics. Our continued prayers are that those physicians who are willing to contribute to premature deaths would change their hearts and support the AMA position. Please encourage all physicians to stand firm on the position that life is worth saving and to provide care to their patients until they die a natural death.

Not all physicians belong to the AMA; however, this organization remains the most influential in the field of medicine, and we look to them to provide the standards that physicians live by. The Lord is good, and He has given us this very important support from the AMA. End-of-life issues continue to be an important topic in state legislatures as laws continue to be proposed and some passed that do put many people at risk, especially the sick, elderly, disabled, and those suffering from a mental illness. Thank you, Lord, for watching over these physicians as they fought to do the right thing. Continue to watch over our medical providers so they can practice their right of conscience and not be forced to do harm to anyone. There is always hope, and we thank you, Lord, for letting us witness that once again with this great victory.
