Life Sunday 2012: Trust God - Choose Life

“Choose life!” (Deuteronomy 30:19) The word “choice” in connection with life raises all kinds of questions and controversy. The Christian view of “choice” differs greatly from the world’s view. The world chooses based on what they want. We base our choices on being chosen by God in Jesus Christ. As chosen people, we are called to first and foremost trust God and His will as we make our choices.

Your congregation can share the idea of Christian choice as it relates to the sanctity of human life. Our materials may be used at any time during the year.

Download Sermon: The Journey (Deuteronomy 30:19) – Pastor Gary Blobaum
PDF Word Rich Text
This sermon takes us on a journey in a fallopian tube, then says, “As surely as when you were in the fallopian tube, the Lord still carries you. Listen to the Lord’s guidance. Listen to the voice that knows you, that knows your journey.” He compares the “cilia” of the fallopian tube to the Word of God and the Sacraments that strengthen us and guide our way in life.

Download Sermon: Good Choice (Deuteronomy 30:19b; Ephesians 1:13-14, John 15:12-20) – Pastor Paul Sajban
PDF Word Rich Text
This sermon gives good insight into the “that you and your children may live” portion of the text. “We want to hand on to our children a Godly respect not only for their own life, but also for the life of the neighbor, that is everyone outside their own life including the unborn baby, the elderly, the sick and dying, the person who does not think her life is worth much.” He brings us to the proper starting place of such “choices.” The right attitude of life toward our neighbor begins with a fear and love of God, the Author of Life.”

Download Sermon: Chosen People Choose Life (Deuteronomy 30:11-21) – Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb
PDF Word Rich Text PowerPoint
This sermon on the theme emphasizes first the context of our choices. “We live our lives in the context of being chosen in Christ. We make our choices in the context of being chosen in Christ.” In this context we face the fundamental choice of our text, to choose to trust this God who has chosen us, or to turn to the god of death for our rescue. (PowerPoint® version also available)

Download Sermon:Our Relenting God. (Job 3:1-10) – Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb

This sermon is based on the Old Testament reading for the Third Sunday after the Epiphany. My conclusion gives you a feel for its focus. “[B]ecause of abortion, we live in a country . . . that needs to repent and change. But the beginning of that change takes place in our hearts as we repent of our indifference toward the God-given value of human life. Then, armed with the Gospel of Jesus, the most powerful and positive For-Life message in the universe, we can be God’s instruments in changing people’s hearts and minds.”
